FocalSport is a global sports advisory firm founded in 2005 by Mark Noonan. We partner with principals to build, scale, and strengthen sports enterprises.

Mark Noonan – Founder & CEO

Mark Noonan is a senior sports executive with decades of experience leading and commercializing professional leagues, clubs and global sports properties.

He recently served as Commissioner of the Canadian Premier League, Chief Executive Officer of Canadian Soccer Business (now CSME), and Board Member of media company, OneSoccer. During his tenure, the CPL achieved sustained double-digit growth in attendance and revenues, strengthened its player development pathways, increased outbound player transfers and increased franchise valuations through disciplined governance, financial management, product development and commercial expansion.

Earlier in his career, Noonan held senior leadership roles including:
  • Executive Vice President, Major League Soccer
  • ​Chief Marketing Officer, U.S. Soccer
  • Chief Executive Officer, Accra Hearts of Oak (Ghana)
  • Chief Commercial Officer, World Surf League 
  • Director of Integrated Marketing, Gatorade

A graduate of Duke University and former NCAA Division I National Champion, Noonan brings both operator-level accountability and board-level perspective to every engagement.

Advisory Work

FocalSport has advised leading organizations across global sport on league formation, naming rights, revenue generation, branding and commercial negotiations.

Select engagements include:


  • Representing the New York Mets ownership in securing the Citi Field naming rights partnership (largest naming rights deal in MLB history) and all seven founding partnerships
  • Advising Professional Bull Riders on the formation and launch of the PBR Teams Series (resulting in a tripling of franchise fees in year two)
  • Building the U.S. business of sports data provider, Repucom, from scratch (sold to Nielsen for $200M)
  • Supporting MLS/SUM, Brown-Forman, the R&A (The Open Championship), the USTA, and FIBA on commercial and brand strategy initiatives
